A few months ago, I wrote an article that I’d like to share with you, entitled “Taming the Tantrums“. It was recently published in the online “Mindful Parenting Magazine“. You might notice that it is their “winter issue” because it is based in Australia. The fact that they asked me to write an article about tantrums, particularly in older children, was reassuring to know that temper tantrums are not only occurring in the United States!
In my work, and as a Mom, I have found that when a child learns to soothe themself, they are not as dependent on others to help calm them down. They begin to feel more in control of their behavior, less helpless and become empowered. Have you ever noticed when your child is having a meltdown, if you begin to lose it, their meltdown only worsens? The last thing a child wants to feel is they are out of control and so is their parent…that is pretty scary!
I hope you find this helpful and remember that when you have a plan, you are an empowered and effective parent!
